Vacation Romance

By Nicole S.

I was at a wonderful all-inclusive Mexican resort and there was a guy. He was so gorgeous! But I was so . . . shy! And my grandmother had even talked to him! He was from London! I'm from San Diego, California. She thought that his name was Robert. Every time in the teen center, I would lose the nerve to talk to him. Ugh! How I hated myself. And now every precious moment was being wasted. As each minute went by, the vacation was closer to being over, and I'd never see him again. How could this be? I first saw him the second day, playing Ping-Pong, right next to my brother and me at the recreational center. I wanted to say "hi" and introduce myself, but I didn't. I was too nervous. When we went shopping at the resort's mall, I saw him in some of the stores, but I still couldn't get up the nerve to speak to him.

"So are you guys sad about leaving in three days?" asked Mom. Leaving? How could she think of such things. It seems like we just got on this wonderful ship!

"I'm homesick!" complained my brother. Well, of course he would want to go home! He probably misses his Nintendo 64. Oh, but I never wanted to leave.

"Just think, if Stacy met a boy, then she'd never want to leave!" joked my dad . What was he saying? That wasn't the problem. I didn't want to leave because I hadn't met him, not because I had.

"Stacy, you look sad! You really don't want to leave do you?" Mom asked. No, I wanted to scream, I have to meet that guy. I'll die if I don't.

"Well, this is a wonderful vacation," I said calmly. "I just don't want to see it end."

"All right. Surprise!" My mother said. The waiter held a cake. There were candles.

"Happy birthday!" everyone exclaimed.

"Make a wish!" Grandma said.

"All right," I agreed. I thought for a moment and then said it aloud in my head. I wish that I would get to meet that really gorgeous guy before the end of this vacation! There, that was what I wanted. Then I blew out all the candles in one breath.

So I saw him again and again but my mouth would not open. I was too nervous. My wish was not going to come true. I wouldn't talk.

The next morning, my family and I all ate breakfast at the buffet. I saw the guy eating breakfast. Wow! Seeing him just took my breath away! Well, there happened to be two buffet places to get food. It was a circular eating area. I went to the food buffet area on my side. I needed a spoon. They were out of spoons on that side, so I had to go to the other side. Oh! I just happened to pass by the guy! As I walked past, I glanced his way. He caught my eye and smiled! I got my spoon and headed back to where I was seated. There were no words in my vocabulary to describe his looks. I felt all tingly when I passed by him.

Mom asked me about the activities and I told her I didn't remember and that I'd go get the schedule, since I was done eating anyway. So I exited, going the long way around, past him. I returned shortly after with the sheet listing that day's activities for the teens. Brian, my brother was the only one at the table when I got back.

"I'm supposed to tell you that everyone left," Brian sighed.

"Really? Well, let's go," I replied as I grabbed his arm and pulled him in the direction I had come from. He looked at the sheet, but I suddenly grabbed it from him to hide my face.

"Hey what are you doing!" Brain exclaimed. As soon as I was out of there, I started down the stairs.

Meanwhile . . .

"Robert, what's so funny?" asked Robert's aunt at the breakfast table.

"Oh, it's just that this girl keeps staring at me!" Robert said with a laugh.

"Oh, well, I'm going to get some more coffee," she said. His aunt arose from her seat and headed to the buffet area. She walked right past the coffee.

"What is she doing?" Robert asked his grandma. "She walked right past the coffee." And with that Robert was right behind his aunt.

"Hi!" A tall, slender woman was looking at me. "Did you want to go swimming this afternoon?" It was Robert's aunt.

"Um, uh . . . " I murmured. "Yeah sure!" I said as I saw the guy who was standing behind her.

"This is Robert, and I'm his aunt." She stood there for a moment.

Then I realized I hadn't spoken. "Oh, my name is Stacy," I said. My stomach was going to explode. I was more nervous than I had ever been in my entire life.

"Cool, well, let's meet at the far swimming pool near the back of the ship. What time?" Robert said with a deep voice.

"Well, ten o'clock?" I suggested.

"Okay, bye Stacy," Robert said as he headed back to breakfast.

So we met up at the pool. We had so much fun! Robert and I were becoming great friends.

"So, did you want to go to the teen dance tonight?" I asked.

Robert smiled and replied, "Yes, definitely."

We agreed to be at the dance at 7:00 p.m.

"Hi Stacy, you look nice!" Robert said with a grin.

"Wow, so do you!" I said. We walked in through the revolving doors. There were tables and menus and a bar. The dance floor was in the center with neon lights in the floor. There was smoke, strobe lights and all sorts of cool special effects.

"Come on. Let's dance," Robert said as he grabbed my hand and pulled me up on the dance floor. They were playing Chumbawumba's " I Get Knocked Down." Soon a slow song came on, and that's when I got really nervous.

"This is my favorite song!" Robert said, and he put his arms around my waist. I put my arms on his shoulders. We were swaying gently to the music.

"You're the coolest girl I've ever met," Robert whispered into my ear. I pulled back and looked him in the eye.

"But it's all going to end tomorrow," I said sadly.

"We'll see each other again, I just know it," Robert replied. He moved closer and kissed me on the check. I blushed, but it was too dark for him to tell. We kept on dancing. Afterwards, we met up with some other friends.

"Hey, look. I've got the balloons from the dinning rooms," Charlie said. We had a party at dinner since it was the last meal for the week. Each table had balloons. "And, they have helium in them! Let's make our voices sound weird!"

So we went to the four deck atrium and made complete fools of ourselves. We were all getting hyper. Soon it was time to leave. Tomorrow we would all leave for home.

* * *

"Is this the end?" I asked Robert. I had accidentally found him on the outside deck, watching the passengers leave.

"Yea, I guess so," Robert sighed. He held my hand tightly.

"Well, don't ever forget me," I said. "And don't forget to write!" I said.

"Robert, it's time to go," said his grandma. We hugged quickly and said good-bye.

Well, I was at the airport already writing a letter to him. I couldn't stop thinking about him.

We wrote letters and called each other often.

"Stacy," my mom said one day next summer, "we are going to Utah in July, and we thought you might like to visit Robert. We'll be right in his area. Write him and tell him to ask his parents. "

"Are you serious?" I asked, shocked.

"Yes, I am!" Mom replied.

"Oh, Mom, you are the best!" I exclaimed and hugged her a little too tight.

Well, one morning I got a call from Robert. He said that I would be able to see him.

We drove up to Utah from San Diego. I called him when we were finally in the area. He was sick.

"Nooooooo!" This is great!" I said sarcastically. "We were right here!"

"If he's better by the end of the week, then we can see him," Mom replied.

So I waited all week. He got better. We were on our way. Finally, we reached his house. I stood at the door. And waited. Then the door slowly opened.

"Stacy?" Robert asked.

"Robert?" I questioned.

"I missed you so much!" Robert replied. We hugged. This was one friendship that couldn't be broken, no matter how far apart we were. And Robert was right. We did see each other again. And we spent a wonderful day together.

Friendship Thing

By Anonymous

With your love,

I will find

A deep friendship

That will forever bind.

Magic spells

And fairy tales

Cannot do a thing

To break what our friendship means.

Being able to talk to you

The way no other two can do.

About the things that

Bother me,

And the way

that I see.

A door opens,

A foggy light,

our friendship

is worth a fight.

A cry of pain

And we sustain.

No one thought

It would regain.

As the pages

Of time go by,

The knot starts

to untie.

We start to break away forever,

The friendship has met bad weather.

But of the memories

We hold so tender,

Those which we will forever remember.

You

By Puja D.

The first time I saw you,

I was afraid to look at you.

The first time I looked at you,

I was afraid to like you,

The first time I liked you,

I was afraid to love you.

But now that I love you,

I am afraid to lose you.

I love you not for who you are,

but for who I am when I am with you.

You are trying to hold my hand for a brief moment,

I am trying to hold your heart forever.

A Life That is Love

By Amber S.

A smile so sweet,"

A hug so strong.

A life that is love.

A day to remember,

The long kiss goodnight.

Eyes that dance with mine,

A love that will last for all time.

A life that is love.

ODE TO VALENTINE’S DAY

By Christa M.

Beware, beware,

Love’s in the air,

With the 14th’s fast approach!

Often someone proposes,

Sends out a dozen roses,

I’d rather send a cockroach!

Please excuse my cynicism,

For I do prefer witticisms,

But allow me to make my noise.

For you must realize,

That with my wide eyes,

I see mostly Middle boys!

And instead of impressed,

I feel most distressed,

And wonder - is that all there is?

Love and Hate

By anonymous

If hate is fire

Put it out

If hate is a fairy tale

Please stop reading

If love is a taste

I just won't eat

If hate is a nightmare

Please wake me up

If hate is a rhythm

don't let the beat go on

If hate is a person
I hope it isn't me

If love is a journey

let me take it

If love is a story

let me hear it

If love is a vision

let me see it

If love is a flame

let it burn

If love is a drink

let me sip it

If love is a thought

let me think it forever
