Crossing Irving Park Road to Fitness Center is a hazard for teens

By Mary W.

At the Fitness Center, Teen Hours are 3:00 till 6:00. Most teens don't go at 3:00. We don't get home till about 3:10. Sometimes we have to stay after school, which then means that most teens get home about 4:20. Most parents make you do your homework first. It usually takes a half-hour. Then, what if we have to walk or we have to wait for someone to drive us? It's about 5:00, which is rush hour, and parents don't want to drive during rush hour so we have to walk. By the time we get to Irving Park Road, it is 5:00.
Crossing Irving during rush hour takes forever. It's cold and we don't want to walk to the crossing light so it takes a while. It's not that bad walking there but by the time we have to leave it's about 6:00. That is when it is even harder to get across Irving Park Road. Drivers ought to realize how hard it is for us to get across the road, and be nicer about it and let us cross, instead of making us wait so long in the cold. Or even better, Teen Hours at the gym should be moved later to make it easier for teens to get there!

Clinton deserves impeachment

By Christina S

Running the country is not the easiest job in the world, but one person seems to have a good hold on what it means to be President. Bill Clinton has made it possible for almost everyone to get a good education, job, and house. "Before Clinton was President we weren't able to afford a real house. Now that he is, we are able to live in a beautiful city in our own home. Something we had never ever thought would happen." -Vicki Grace (Parent of student that attends Stratford Jr. High) If everyone thought of Mr. Clinton's presidency like that, then everything would now be running smoothly, but Mr. William J. Clinton has lost most everyone's trust.
Mr. Clinton was accused of having an improper relationship outside of marriage with a woman named Monica Lewinsky. This should not be important to us. What he does in his spare time is none of our business. I mean, would you want everyone in the country to know where you were last night? Exactly! The topic that we should be concerned with is that he committed perjury, meaning that he lied under oath. He was impeached for this. Can we really believe that he won't lie again?
But, we are straying away from the true issue of this case. All the time and money used for the trial, news broadcasts, and other media coverage has been wasted for a very petty reason. What about helping the poor? The hungry? The sick? We have lost all interest in the real issues of the United States. Right now someone may be lying in a cardboard box with nothing to eat while battling cancer, but do we think about all those people? No! All we care about is what's going to happen to Clinton.

Should it be Washington or Benson?

By Nicole S

This past December, Washington Primary School had its name changed to Benson Primary School. It was named after Raymond Benson, who was on the District 10 school board for over thirty years. He contributed much of his time and money to the school, and the school board voted that the school was worthy of his name. I asked some Peacock students how they felt about the change.

Katie M
The new name just confuses people. I do think it's nice to honor him, though. Truthfully, it doesn't really matter. It's the same school.

Michelle B
I think it is absolutely awful. I went there for four years. I always thought it was so cool because it was Washington School on Washington Street.

Christina S
It stinks! Washington was my favorite school. Benson doesn't suit the school very well, in my opinion anyway. I just think that they should leave it the way everybody is used to.

Michael M
I think it's kind of good because he was on the school board and has given most of his time to the education of children. There is still Washington Park and Washington Street, so it's okay that the school isn't Washington anymore. There is enough stuff named after Washington already.

Janelle B
It doesn't really matter to me. Life goes on, people change, hairstyles change!
