Coach Poremba praises team's effort
By Jason V.
According to Mr. Poremba, the eighth grade boys basketball coach, the team did well this year despite a losing record. They were 1-4 in conference and 3-9 in overall. Their most difficult game this season was against Medinah because Peacock could not break through their defense. Mr. Poremba said that the players did a great job this year, especially Mike M., Matt P., Mike B. and Brian C. He also thought that Mike E., Pat R., Mike B., and Nick N. showed major improvement.
Overall, Mr. Poremba thought the competition was very tough this season, and he said that he enjoys coaching these outstanding players. This year, the players worked on improving their statistics and trying to do their best on the court. Mr. Poremba also wanted to thank the cheerleaders for cheering on the team.

Eighth grade girls basketball team wins trophy
By Stephanie C.
The eighth grade girls basketball team played outstandingly well this season. Their coach, Mr. Martin, said their record was five and one in conference play and the team also won the Lack Park feeder tournament. They were eleven and one over their two seasons. The best game this season was the Lake Park Tournament game when they beat Westfield. The most difficult game this season, however, was losing to Westfield in our season opener.
All of the players were hard-working and according to Mr. Martin, at least three of them will go on to girls varsity basketball at Lake Park High School. Janice H., Rosa S., and Janelle B. are the most improved players this season. Mr. Martin said that he was very proud of the young ladies this year.
Although the team had a successful year, Mr. Martin admitted that he was glad it was over. Mr. Martin is retiring at the end of this year, so this was his last season coaching at Peacock. He said that he believes the girls basketball program is headed in the right direction. Mr. Martin also commented that it was a pleasure working with sixth and seventh grade girls coach, Mr. Anderson. "He is an outstanding young man and an excellent coach," said Mr. Martin. "The future of the program is in capable hands."

IHL provides more entertainment for the money
By Matt G.
Let's compare the Chicago's two hockey teams, the IHL Wolves (minor league) and the NHL Blackhawks. This year, the Wolves are actually better then the Blackhawks. Last year, the Wolves won the Turner Cup, the IHL championship, when they defeated the Detroit Vipers. Detroit is strong again this year. Who knows? It could be the Wolves against the Vipers in the finals again. The Wolves are one of the best teams in the IHL. They have a great offense and defense, great players and a pretty good coach.
The Blackhawks, on the other hand are going for their third losing season in a row. They are in thirteenth place in the Western Conference and there are only eight playoff spots. So they need to win a lot of games to get a spot. But there are other teams who are struggling and need wins too, so it won't be easy for the Hawks.
Now I'll compare the IHL to the NHL. The IHL has shootouts when the score is tied, but the NHL has an overtime period where whoever scores wins and if no one scores, it's a tie. I think shootouts are better because because they are more interesting and more exciting. Overall, the IHL is more entertaining than the NHL. For example, they play more music throughout the games. Most importantly, the IHL players really want to play hockey whereas the NHL players only seem to want money. All in all, it's less expensive and more entertaining to go to a Wolves game!
