Cross country season was a great success

By Sarah R.

The Cross Country team had a very successful season. The team had fifty-four runners coached by Mrs. Krisik. This was her first year coaching the Cross Country team. The season started with practices at Happy Acres and Springbrook Nature Center. The team ran approximately 1.5 miles at each practice. For meets, the teams ran against schools including Springwood, Churchville and Bensenville. Each course had different obstacles such as hills, bridges, and forests. The students ran in all sorts of weather including rain and sunshine, hot and cold, with a few days that were just right for running.

Peacock had many talented, hard working runners this year, including Kelly D., Julie D., Aubrie H., Ryan C., Brianna C., Frank S., Drew H., Erik M. and David P. Since most of the team members were sixth and seventh graders, it was a good building year.

The season finished with the Conference meet at Wood Dale Middle on a cold, wet and miserable day. The Peacock's girls placed fifth and the boys took first. The overall winner of the meet was Peacock seventh grader Ryan C. The top runners for the girls were Janelle B. (8), Brianna C. (16), Aleksia I. (35), Kelly D. (39) and Kathryn K. (48). The top runners for the boys were Ryan C. (1), Erik M. (7), Frank S. (9), Drew H. (16) and David P. (19).

NHL is competitive this year

By Matt G.

There just has not been a team that can dominate the NHL this season. It has been very competitive. The teams that are playing excellent hockey are the Dallas Stars, the Detroit Redwings, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Dallas Stars have a great offense. They average three goals per game. Dallas is probably going to be a playoff clincher.

The Detroit Redwings are back! They will continue their exciting play during the whole season they are a goo bet to win another Stanley Cup.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a much better team this year. They have not been to the playoffs in four years. This looks like their year and if they get to the playoffs, only a great team like the Redwings can stop them.

The Philadelphia Flyers are going to probably fall apart later in the season. Don’t root for the Flyers. Whenever they start out strong, they always fall apart. Sure, there are many other teams that can make it. But I think that the Stars, the Redwings and the Maple Leafs have the best chance to win it all.
