Who should be our President?
By Lora C.
This question took a while to think up. I asked seventh graders, "if you could pick anyone, living or deceased, to be President, who would it be and why?"
Rocky Marciano, because he was one of the best boxers that ever lived. He was awesome!
- Tommy F.
I think I would have to pick Walt Disney because he was smart and he would also bring happiness to our world.
- Angela G.
I would say Princess Diana because she was so nice and cared about everyone. She tried to do so much for everyone, even the people she didn't even know.
- Rachael A.
John F. Kennedy because before he died there weren't as many problems with drugs and violence. John was also a very nice person.
- Jamie O.
I think that Mr. Poremba should be president because he likes to talk.
- Ryan O.
During all the time I've been old enough to understand, I haven't liked any of the people running for president. I really think that Michael Jordan should be president because he is a great, honest person.
- Shannon H.
Ben Affleck should be President because he is a good person and cares about everything around him.
- Farah A.
I would have to say Abe Lincoln. I think it would be cool to have a president from your own state. After all he was "Honest Abe."
- Brad B.
John F. Kennedy should be president. He was a great person who cared about everything that was going on around the world. It was a tragedy that he had to die at such a young age.
- Ryan L.
Chris Farly would be really cool to have as president because he was funny and no other president was, except for Clinton because he got caught.
- Phil Z.
Ben Affleck because he is handsome and he would make a good president.
- Krissy M.

Hair color counts: self expression is unfairly limited
By Matt C.
At Lake Park High School, self-expression is free and students express themselves. At Peacock, self-expression is unfairly restricted. Not to complain, but I was called down to the office for the way I colored my hair.
I want to know when it became a bad thing to use forms of temporary coloring in your hair to express yourself. I color my hair to be different, different from other people. Coloring my hair helps me express and develop my personality.
I don't color or spike my hair to make authority mad. I believe, however, that since we are a Character Counts school, we should be allowed to be who we want to be.
I know that many school officials believe that radical hair colors are distracting and therefore disrupt the learning of others, but it is not as though any of my fellow students have stood up in the middle of class and said, "Hey, nice hair."
Another excuse for the ban on temporary hair coloring may be that it annoys the teachers. But I don't think that is true. After all, I haven't run into one of my teachers who has had a problem with my hair. Some even complimented me on it.
I do wonder whether this rule was made by the administration to suit their own personal tastes, without considering whether it would anger students.
I come to you now not as a student but as someone with a strong opinion that this rule be changed. After all, part of Character Counts is to let people be the people they want to be. If you don't have anything nice to say, then I don't think you should say it at all, and that rule should include school officials, too.

We need a break!
Isn't there a school policy that says no student can miss lunch more than three days a week for a TAT (Teacher Assistance Time)? Some teachers are not following this rule. Students have to follow rules, why not teachers?
The administration limits the number of times per week students can miss lunch. Lunch is a necessary part of the day, and students need that time to relax. It may not be the only, or even primary reason the policy was made, but WE NEED A BREAK!
