The Hair Club for Men; or the problem with political correctness
By Matt C., Op-Ed Editor
Being "politically correct" has become one of the most annoying problems in America. It is a joke, a travesty, and a mockery of freedom of speech.
Think about it, if you make a sign that can be understood as discriminating on the basis of gender, you could be sued.
Someone recently filed a lawsuit against "The Hair Club For Men" for obvious reasons. Most people don't like having to change men to people.
We even have to change century old quotes to fit political correctness in America. The human race should just shut-up about this whole thing about being politically correct and just say it as it is.
The Hair Club for Men should stay The Hair Club for Men, and the men working sign should stay the men working sign.
Maybe if everyone cooled down and just chose their battles, America wouldn't be so screwed up. After all, people aren't really offended by all of this; they just want the cash settlement.
Last time I checked, money didn't make you happy, but that's really all these plaintiffs are going after.
To sum it up, America should can all these people who instigate litigation against people who create banners that are socially biased. I thought in America we had the right to say what we want, and write they way we feel without someone taking us to court.
There is no need to interfere with anyone else's beliefs just because they don't fit tidily into yours. If you are one of these people, try not to sound like a child, and put away your lawsuit papers because no one cares.

Telephone use policy is unfair
By Maggie F.
Teachers have recently been told not to let students use the telephones in their rooms.
The teachers were also told to tell students to use the pay phone, located outside of the gym, to call their parents.
As many students have learned the hard way, however, that pay phone does not work.
Before, when students went into the office to use the phone, they were told to use the pay phone unless it was an emergency.
Most students know it's usually not an emergency, and so they attempt to use our school pay phone. Only they quickly find out that it is out of order!
What if a student is told by her parent to call after school to explain a change in plans that was unknown that morning?
I recently went to the office to ask about the pay phone and was told that the company running it wasn't making enough money so they disconnected it. The administration knew this and still told the teachers not to let any student use their phones.
Wouldn't it be so much easier for teachers to let students use their room phones instead of the office phone?

How would you decide the presidential race?
By Melissa M.
What do you think about the current presidential race? How would you like the country to decide the winner?
I think the ballots should be recounted. The people have the right to choose their leader. This is a neck-in-neck competition. Every person's voice should be heard.
Rachel W.
Let Mr. Clinton go another year and vote all over again next year.
Despina P.
We should let President Clinton go one more year, it's getting way too complicated.
Sarah L.
If they go at this rate we won't have a president for the year 2001.
Brittney L.
Gore has already lost, he's just trying to get more votes.
T.J. H.
Stop the recount. Bush has already won. Gore doesn't have a chance.
Elysia B.
Stop the recount and whoever is winning right now is the winner.
Suzee R.
We should keep the votes for Bush, he already won!
Missy W.
I don't like either of the candidates and Mr. Poremba should run for president instead.
Dana D.
Go by the original count.
