No to I.D's
By Izabela B.

Are our I.D. cards that important to have at ALL times like our teachers tell us? NO!

We should not have to present our I.D's in order to use a computer. It's not as though we're going to come from a different school and sign up for a computer.

I was once in the media center, and they wouldn't let one student in, even though he did have a picture I.D. I don't see what the big fuss is about.

In defense of heavy metal
By Matt C. Op-Ed Editor

Heavy metal and other similar music has been criticized, mocked, and accused of generating violence within communities.

Although the music does contain rather explicit and subjective lyrics, it is a little unbelievable to think that it would make a child go out and shoot seventeen people, bomb an airport and then commit suicide just because a song says that it's the best thing to do.

If heavy metal music contained happy carefree lyrics, the listening crowd would not disappear.

If the metal lyrics were transposed to a Brittany Spears pop song, and not screamed, would there be controversy over that? Probably not.

If a non-violent teen starts listening to the "bad music," would he turn into Charlie Manson, Jr.? Probably not.

Kiss was condemned back in the seventies, but now is idolized as classic rock.

So hopefully, when people one day realize that some people actually just like heavy metal music, and don't prize it for the "bad lyrics," I will smile.
