Individual records at season's only track meet
By Brittney L.

The only track meet of the season was held at Lake Park East Campus on Tuesday, May 15. There were supposed to be three meets, but the first two were canceled due to bad weather.

At the Lake Park East meet, several Peacock records were broken. Eighth graders, Aubrie H. and Katherine K. broke the mile time. Aubrie won the mile and Katherine placed fourth.

Seventh grader Dana D. broke the shot put record with a throw of 25 feet, 10 1/2 inches. She took second place

Colleen Moran, sixth grade, broke the Peacock record for the eight hundred meter run, and won the race.

Eighth grader Stephanie C. broke the long jump distance record and took first place. Stephanie also placed third in the 100 meter dash.

The girls were not the only Peacock students who turned in impressive individual performances. The boys also did a good job at the conference meet.

Nick T., seventh grade, broke the record for the triple jump distance and finished second.

Eighth grader Phil Z. broke the long jump distance record. His classmate, Phil G. won the mile.

The girls team finished in third place. Seventh graders Ashley H. and Kelsey B., who have been on the track team for two years, both thought that the girls could have done better, but they also felt that they all had tried their best.

Peacock boys took sixth at this year's conference track meet. Anthony M., seventh grade, also on the team for two years, thought that the boys did "ok," but they could have done better.

Kelsey and Ashley said that the girls had a very hard competition this year. Other teams at the conference meet included very tall girls who could run very fast.

Anthony thought that the boys' competition was pretty tough, but they did a pretty good job.

Ashley, Anthony, and Kelsey have enjoyed track, but Kelsey is the only one who would like to continue track next year. Kelsey even wants to continue her track career in high school.

All the students said that they enjoyed the chance to hangout with their friends, and that they had fun running.

They said that they appreciated that the coaches don't mind if you walk a little, but they know you are trying your hardest and they give you a lot of encouragement to finish strong and finish the race with flying colors.
