What is Americas next target?
By Michael K.
Copy editor
America has won the first battle in the fight against terrorism but the war is far from over. In a little over three months, the Tailban in Afghanistan has been overthrown and replaced with a democratic government.
The Al-Queda terror network in Afghanistan has been decimated. Over one hundred Taliban and Al-Queda soldiers and officials have been captured and taken to Camp X-ray at the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The end of the war on terrorism is not in sight.

Treatment of these prisoners has drawn criticism from Amnesty International and other human rights organizations, as well as from some domestic and many foreign journalists. The main concern is of a picture, which showed the prisoners arriving in Cuba in chains and shackles and wearings masks, blindfolds, and earplugs, depriving them of their senses.
Most Americans and the American media seem to accept these extreme measures because they accept the governments description of these men as very dangerous. The United States does not consider these men as prisoners of war and the government argues that they do not have to give them the privileges that are internationally agreed upon for prisoners of war.
As the war in Afghanistan winds down, there are several rumors and theories of where the U.S will strike next. Some possible targets include Iraq and Somalia. The end of the war on terrorism is not in sight.

Bentley's Pancake House opens
Delicious food and neighborly fun
By Emily W.
Has your family ever wanted to go out for a good pancake breakfast at a place nearby? Well, my family did one Saturday morning, and we went to Bentley's Pancake House & Restaurant.
Bentley's is on Irving Park Road in Georgetown Square in Wood Dale. It just opened in Spring 2001.
When we walked in, we were inside a bright and cheerful restaurant. A large colorful mural of a rooster decorates the wall behind the front desk. We sat in a huge comfortable booth.
My sister, Julia, received a kids' menu. It has games and puzzles on the back.
There are a lot of different choices on the normal menu. For breakfast, Bentley's has pancakes, blintzes, waffles, French toast, eggs, skillets, omelets, oatmeal, and crepes.
They have many different kinds of crepes: strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, apple cinnamon, peach, and strawberry- banana. They also have extra sides of bacon and sausage.
After 11:00 am, the restaurant also serves burgers, all kinds of sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Usually, both my mom and I have crepes, but we had a taste for something different that day. I ordered a cheese omelet with hash browns, my sister ordered the kids' portion of peach crepes, my dad had some oatmeal and poached eggs, and my mom had a skillet.
There is one other thing you can look forward to at Bentleys: seeing lots of your friends and neighbors!

A skillet has eggs, potatoes, vegetables, and cheese. It is served in a large pan. With every order, we had the choice of different kinds of toast: wheat, rye, white, raisin, Greek, and sourdough.
Our food came soon after we ordered.
Let me tell you from experience: Don't order an omelet unless you are really, really hungry. It was very good, but it was huge!
The rest of my family had too much food, also, but enjoyed their meals very much.
The check was reasonably priced.
There is one other thing you can look forward to at Bentley's: seeing lots of your friends and neighbors! That morning, we saw many people that we knew.
I enjoyed eating at Bentley's and I will definitely dine there again.
I rated Bentley's on a scale of 1 to 5.
Food- 5
Atmosphere- 5
Service-5
Cleanliness- 5
Kid Friendly- 5

New student
Seventh grader likes Peacock people
By Susie S.
Ted N. is a new student at Peacock. He is in seventh grade, and has made many new friends.
Ted was born in Chicago and moved to Florida, and now that he's back in Illinois, he's a lot happier.
He doesn't miss his old school, and he said Peacock is much better than his old school because, "It's just better."
Ted likes sports, especially basketball and rugby. He also likes listening to most music except country.
His favorite class is advisory because he said, "It's the easiest."
Ted likes Peacock, and when asked why, he answered, "Because of the people."

The Poem of Life
By Dan B.
11/15/00
As I walk through the woods
I see the joy and the happiness
That you don't see when you are not free.
And even when you are free
Sometimes, you don't take the time
To see the wonder that God has put on this earth for us.
We'd much rather spend our time
Inside, doing nothing
But the joy of life is much too wonderful
To throw away!
So thank God for this life
And go see the wonders of the world!

The Man of Truth
By Dan B.
11/15/00
As I walk down the road
I see a man covered with darkness.
He walks to me
And mumbles truth
truth of what may come
from the outside.
As he walks away
I am speechless
for what he meant was here
Here in front of me.
