What is really patriotic?
By Paul P.
Op-Ed editor

The September 11 attacks on America seem to have brought out the patriotism in everyone. Every car that you look at seems to have a sticker or the windshield or bumper of the American flag.

Some people actually care about the country. Others just do it because caring sells.

If you get tired of waving a flag, maybe you could actively do something like voting in elections.
I think celebrities like MTV's Carson Daly wear their "NYPD" hats so people will think they send their deepest condolences to those lost.

If they really cared, maybe they'd give away some of their millions of dollars. They would start funds and other such things; wearing an "I Love New York" shirt just doesn't cut it. People are dead and all you can do is color the insignia of your channel red, white and blue?

I think someone should make a commercial stating, "Too cheap to send a donation? Buy a hat!" Although many people who made donations do care, I think that some did it to look like they love their country with all their heart.

Some of these pretenders get on the case of those who don't flaunt their fake patriotism.

If you get tired of waving a flag, maybe you could actively do something like voting in elections. Our country has horrible voter turnout.

The real heroes are those that know true patriotism in their heart; not flying from an antenna.

What do you think about our dances?
By Kristen S.

What do you think should be changed about Peacock dances? They are real cool already, right? We get the neat lights, the awesome music, games, and refreshments. However, some seventh graders had some really good ideas that would make the dances a lot more fun and interesting:

We think the dances are pretty cool right now,
but they should be a little longer. We need more time to be able to dance and socialize!
- Angela W. and Radvile R.

The dances need to have cheaper prices. Also,
we should have some type of local band come
in every once in a while; that would be totally awesome!
- Nikki H.

We need to have longer dances! 7:00-9:00
(and sometimes 7:00-9:30) just isn’t enough
time. Maybe they should be from 6:30 to 10:00. Then we would definitely have a lot more time.
- Ashley Z.

We definitely think there should be
more glo-sticks. They are always running
out so soon. Also, they should really cut
down on the rap music.
- Britta H. and Megan H.
