AREA2
Moby and Bowie join forces
By Paul P.

Area2 is the sequel to last year's Area:1 music festival. Techno musician Moby organized both tours. Area2 hit the Tweeter Center on August 8, 2002.

Moby created the concept when he thought of which artists put on the best live shows. The big star on this tour was David Bowie. Moby was honored to have him aboard since he considers Bowie the greatest musician of the twentieth century.

What set this concert apart from the others was its diverse musical styles. This year's lineup included Busta Rhymes, Blue Man Group, Moby, David Bowie, Irish punk-rockers Ash, and a slew of DJ's including John Digweed, Carl Cox, Dieselboy, DJ Dan, and DJ Tiësto.

The various sponsors set up booths around the stage. Macintosh brought a small tent that contained computers and mp3 players featuring the music of Area2.

The fruit drink Elements had a huge ramp and quarter pipe that they let mountain-boarders trick off of.

The best attraction however, was the dance tent, this year sponsored by Sony. This massive, air-conditioned tent had smoke, lights, and huge TV screens to watch while DJs spun tracks, and ravers danced to the music.

The main stage's attractions started at three o'clock when Ash took the stage. Their style reflected more of late 70's punk rock than newer bands.

Next on stage was the Blue Man Group. Four drummers and three guitarists assisted them. The act included the Blue Men making music with PVC piping, empty gasoline drums and huge metal gongs.

Blue Man Group finished by throwing a stuffed model of one of the members that was promptly torn into pieces and strewn across the crowd.

For an artist as colorful as Busta, he didn’t have any props, he didn’t move around much, or make an entrance.
Busta Rhymes was up next. He and his sidekick would just stand in one place and rap through one or two songs. Then they would bring it to a stop by talking for a while. Then they'd try to rev everyone up again.

For an artist as colorful as Busta, he didn't have any props, he didn't move around much, or make an entrance.

A little while after Busta left, David Bowie hit the stage. There wasn't a single person in the pavilion sitting down. He performed songs from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars to his new release Heathen.

Bowie's set ended right as it started to get dark. Moby came on stage with his new hit "Extreme Ways." He would slow the show down to play a cover song for a few seconds on his guitar (complete with Itchy & Scratchy sticker).

Again, no one was sitting. As usual, Moby brought along a spectacular light show. He also had a huge ten-piece band. At one point, Moby and his band donned afro wigs to play "Body Rock."

After he finished, Moby and his whole band returned for an encore that started with Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones and finishing with his self-proclaimed "best disco song ever" "Make Me Feel So Real."

Area2 was definitely as good as the first area tour. For the most part, the groups playing were very good. The best part is the overall experience of the combined music stars, DJs, and other things to do. I would highly recommend Area2 to fans of every music genre.

Goldmember is pure gold comedy
By Kenny T.

It's been a while since Austin Powers (Mike Myers), that international man of mystery, has had to face his arch-enemy, Dr. Evil (Mike Myers). But after Dr. Evil and Mini-Me (Verne Troyer) escape from a maximum-security prison, Austin is called to the job once more.

In this, the third Austin Power movie, Dr. Evil teams up with the mysterious yet peculiar Goldmember (also played by Myers).

Dr. Evil hatches a time-traveling plot to take over the world, one that involves the kidnapping of Nigel Powers (Michael Caine), Austin's father and England's most renowned spy.

As he chases the villains through time, Austin goes to 1975 and meets up with his old friend, Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyonce Knowles), a stylish yet, street smart detective.

Together, Austin and Foxxy must find a way to save Nigel and stop Dr. Evil and Goldmember from their EVIL plot to take over the world.

Austin Powers in Goldmember is rated PG-13 because of sexual innuendo, crude humor, and language.

I would give Austin Powers in Goldmember 3 stars because it was funny but not as good as the first and second.

You will like this movie if you have seen the first two and enjoyed them, and also if you liked any of Mike Myers other films.

Groovy Baby! Austin Powers in Goldmember
By Mari D.

Groovy Baby! Mike Myers, Beyonce Knowles, Michael Cane and Seth Green were groovy in the comedy "Austin Powers in Goldmember".

Austin Powers has to save the world and his father from Dr. Evil and the gold loving Goldmember.

Fred Savage (from "The Wonder Years") is a mole collecting information about Dr. Evil for Austin Powers.

There were a lot of old characters and many new characters. There were a lot of stars that made short appearances. There was a lot of action and surprises. The surprise ending will leave you shocked.

I recommend "Austin Powers in Goldmember" if you like to laugh out loud, Baby!
