Peacock runners get jump on new season
By Emily W.

Under the direction of Coach Engel, Peacock runners met at the Nature Center three times a week during August.
While most of the students at Peacock were on vacation, some members of the Peacock Cross Country team were already practicing.

Ms. Krisik, now Mrs. Engel, organized Cross Country Camp for the more serious runners who wanted to get a head start on the season.

The camp practiced at the Nature Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:15 to 9:30 AM for the two weeks before school started.

Seventh grader Jeff H. said, "I joined cross-country camp because it's really good exercise."

Both eighth grader Phil L. and seventh grader Megan S. agreed that it was harder to run in the early morning.

Mrs. Engel started off the camp by having the students run one to three miles. Then they moved on to sprint exercises, including sprints up a hill.

Mrs. Engel explained that the practice changed a little bit every day.

“The kids are doing really well and they haven’t complained once,”said Mrs. Engel.
Sixth grader Brianne F. said, "I like running, but running up the hill is not my favorite part."

Both B. and Bryant H. are new to the team and are looking forward to running cross country at Peacock.

"The kids are doing really well and they haven't complained once," said Mrs. Engle.

The Peacock Cross Country team hopes that this camp will give them an extra boost during the season.

"I'm pretty sure that other schools don't have a cross country camp. But they are more than welcome to join ours. This camp is not specifically for Peacock students," stated Mrs. Engel.

She also added, "I love coaching cross country. Its awesome!"

Da Bulls, do they have a chance?
By Shannon P.

The Chicago Bulls really haven't been good since they won the NBA Finals in '98. Back then, they had Phil Jackson calling all of their plays and Michael Jordan making them happen.

For the past three seasons, however, the Bulls have really been going downward. Now the Bulls are at a point where this continuous downward fall may start to gradually climb back up.

Even though this sounds weird, the Bulls' past season may have helped them. Finishing second to last in the NBA, the Bulls were able to draft point guard Jay Williams to be their new "M.J." so to speak.

Yes, it's true that Williams isn't quite like Jordan, but he is one of the best things that could happen to the Bulls right now.

The Bulls finally have someone to help run the court and help them get more than thirty victories.

Although the Bulls may not have a chance to make it to the playoffs this season, it does seem that they may finally be on their way back up.
