Seniors Sail the Grecian Isles
BY CRYSTAL M.

Following the Greek theme, many students participated in the Senior Luncheon this year.
Every year Peacock hosts a Senior Citizen Luncheon. This year’s theme was Greece.

All Encore classes are involved with this event. There were many decorations relating to Greece. The Art classes made some decorations for the luncheon. The 6th grade Art students made fishplates and the 7th graders studied Greek pottery. The Industrial Technology students made maps of Greece using a computer program called Adobe Illustrator. Some students in gym class learned Greek dances and helped greet the senior citizens. The choir performed three songs: Polly Wolly Doodle, Scarlet Tide, and Colonel Bogey’s March (You’re a Grand Ole Flag).

The 8th grade FACS class has the biggest involvement with the luncheon. This was the first year for Ms. Ahn, the new FACS teacher. She said that she was very happy with the students' work. They first studied the food of the country. The class also took part in making the menu for the luncheon. They practiced cooking the food and finally got it ready for the luncheon. The FACS students said that it took about three weeks to prepare all the food.

New Home for Village and Police
By Dani D.

The grand entrance to the new Municipal Building welcomes Itasca's citizens to a spacious, modern facility we can all be proud of.
It’s finished! The community has been watching and waiting for nearly two years. In August we were able to tour the facility. The large building is in the shape of a right angle. Flags greeting you as you come and go are a nice accent. The Police Dept. is on the east side and Village Hall is along the north side.

The Chief of Police and the Mayor’s offices are the best! Each of these offices overlooks the courtyard that opens up into the Springbrook Arbor. Their views are spectacular.

The courtyard behind the Municipal Building faces the Springbrook Arbor for a beautiful view all year around.
The building is large enough to grow with our community, so it should last us a while. The building is for the whole community, so when the opportunity is there, go visit.

Serve Your Community, Serve Yourself
By: Marisa G.

Community service is required at Peacock so that you can advance to the next grade. You might think that this is a good idea and you might not. Whatever your opinion is we all have to get it done.

Community service is beneficial to our community and the person who does it.
If you still need your community service hours there are many ways to complete them. The opportunities that we hear about the most are going to the Nature Center or to the Library. Some students have mowed lawns and raked leaves for people who cannot do it themselves and picked up garbage around their neighborhood. You can tutor younger kids, visit people at the hospital, or visit the nursing home. There are also many church and community events that you can participate in to get your service hours done. Remember: as long as you do not get paid for doing service work for others, then it’s community service.

If these don’t interest you there are many other ways to finish service hours. You can get them done with a friend or think of something that sounds fun to you.

Community service is beneficial to our community and the person who does it. It will surprise you how good it feels to help someone out when they aren’t able to do something themselves and to get your service done. Why wait until the last minute when you can help someone now?
