Girls' Cross-Country Team
By Ashley P.
 |
| At our first Pep Rally of the school year, the cheerleeders showed us how to support our athletes. So the girls' Cross Country team went out and made Peacock proud. |
|
This year the girls' cross-country team started practice in August. The 23 girls on the team worked very hard and had a lot of fun.
Sixth grade runners: Cristina R., Stephanie M., Kaitlynn N., Jenna S., and Stephanie J.
Seventh grade runners: Judy P., Jennifer L., Kara F., Vicky L., Ashley N., C. Briscoe, Tess F., Elizabeth R., Megan R., Marisa G., and Dani D.
Eighth grade runners: Nicole K., Dana Y., Urszaula M., Elizabeth P., Stephanie D., Sarah Z., and Trica H.
Some of the top runners were sixth graders Kaitlynn N., Jenna S.; seventh graders Judy P., Kara F., Ashley N., Colleen B., Elizabeth R., Dani D., and eighth grader Urszaula M. The home cross-country course was at the Itasca Nature Center. It was a mile and a half long.
The first meet was against Roselle Middle School. After that meet, there were many more. One of the most competitive schools to run against was Churchville Middle School. This year the girl’s cross-country team finished in 5th place overall. Coach Engel hopes that next year’s season will be just as good.

Girls' BB Bounces into View

Dribble, shoot, score! This is what the girls' basketball teams are doing! The tryouts for the 6th/7th and 8th grade girls’ basketball teams were awesome! The competition was really tough. “Everyone is good enough to play, but unfortunately not everyone can be on the team,” said Mr. Poremba at the tryouts. All of the players tried their hardest and did their best. Everyone was wonderful.
The girls on the teams are already working very hard. The sixth graders that made the team are: Jenna S., Stephanie M., Tara B., Kaitlynn N., and Stephanie J. They are extremely excited to have made the team. The seventh graders, Daisy R., Jennifer L., Danielle F., Kara F., Tess F., Judy P., and Amanda B., are helping the sixth graders get better at all the skills needed in basketball. The team is concentrating, listening to the coaches, and putting forth great effort. They are also having a lot of fun!
The eighth grade team is working hard. They are ready for their first game: Michella C., Brianne F., Tricia H., Rachel K., Tianna M., Amanda M., Katie N., Jaclyn R., Callie S., Heidi S., Caron T., and Natalie W. All of them are extremely good. During practice they do many drills to get even better. They pass, dribble, shoot, and do scrimmages so that they can improve. By their first game they will be amazing.
Both teams are excited for their first game at Peacock on the 19th of October. They will be playing against Medinah.
Because of all their effort, I think they will do an awesome job! Congratulations to all the girls who made the team, and good luck for an excellent season.
